Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel said yesterday that the planned Islamic Center and mosque near the World Trade Center should be turned into an interfaith effort.
Reports say Wiesel thinks the project should be turned into an interfaith center that would bring together Jews, Christians and Muslims.
The 82-year-old Holocaust survivor made his pitch at the closing event of the Conference of Nobel Laureates at the 92nd Street Y and said he planned to speak with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf about the idea.
Weisel said an interfaith center at the site would become a “monument for human understanding.”
