Panama-born Ginella Massa on Friday became the first Canadian woman donning the Islamic scarf covering the hair – known as hijab – to present a “major news cast” in the North American country.
“Guess who’s filling in as anchor for tonight’s late newscast?,” Massa, who works for CityNews, wrote on her Facebook page, adding: “This is not just a big deal for me personally -- As far as I know, no woman in hijab has ever anchored a major news cast in Canada.”
In early 2015, Massa scored another first, becoming the first hijab-wearing television news reporter.
