Where Are the Profs Defending Henri Barkey and Condemning Turkey?

Turkey’s descent into dictatorship continues apace with the (absurd) issuance of an arrest warrant for American Middle East studies scholar Henri Barkey. Will American scholars such as Juan Cole of the University of Michigan, John Esposito and Jonathan Brown of Georgetown University, and Richard Falk of Princeton University condemn this latest illegal action or will they continue to help legitimize Erdoğan’s Islamist regime?

Winfield Myers is managing editor of the Middle East Forum and director of its Campus Watch project, which reviews and critiques Middle East studies in North American universities. He has taught world history and other topics at the University of Michigan, the University of Georgia, Tulane, and Xavier University of Louisiana. He was educated at the University of Georgia, Tulane, and the University of Michigan.
