Colleagues,
Daniel Pipes of Campus Watch and other fame has been nominated to serve on the board of the U.S. Institute for Peace. USIP funds a lot of work on the Middle East, and its board members sign off on decisions made by fellowship review committees, so this is a serious concern.
Pipes' nomination requires Senatorial approval, and it is under discussion NOW in the Education Committee of the U.S. Senate. If you wish to offer views about the appropriateness of this nomination, you should contact members of this committee right away. Members include, on the Republican side, Frist (majority leader), Warner, Enzi, Bond, Roberts, and several others. Members on the Democratic/Independent side include Kennedy, Clinton, Edwards, Jeffords and Dodd. You can find the full membership of this committee at its web site.
