“Saudi Arabia at War” with Bernard Haykel

Saudi Arabia at War

With Saudi Arabia at war with the Houthis, how secure are the kingdom and the crown prince who leads it? Bernard Haykel, one of the leading scholars of the Arabian Peninsula, will discuss the war, Riyadh’s relations with Israel, the UAE and its other neighbors, the Mecca Agreement, and the stability of Mohammed bin Salman’s rule.

Bernard Haykel is professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, where he directed the Institute for the Transregional Study of the Contemporary Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia from 2007 to 2023. He received his doctorate in Oriental Studies from Oxford and specializes in the history and politics of the Arabian Peninsula, especially Saudi Arabia and Yemen, Salafism and Islamic political movements. He is the author of Revival and Reform in Islam: The Legacy of Muhammad al-Shawkani (Cambridge University Press).
