MEF Chief Strategist Jim Hanson spoke to FOX News about the possibility of the U.S. and Israel helping the Kurds with weapons to start an armed resistance.
FOX: Especially in keeping with the Trump doctrine, no forever wars, no boots on the ground. That makes the most sense to me.
HANSON: Well, it’s their neighborhood. You know, they live there. It’s their job to do what they can to rescue their country.
And I think the idea of a safe haven in the province most filled with fighters, as Rebecca mentioned, and also far enough away that if the IRGC or anyone tried to reinforce there, we have persistent surveillance drones and everything all over that. If they send anybody to go ahead and try and stop it, it’ll turn into the highway of death, too. And that’ll be ugly for them.
So I think there’s an opportunity there to go ahead and distract the regime, to let them know that things are going, and then maybe the Azeris and the Balochi and others will follow suit.
And eventually, that moves to enough places that it becomes a popular movement. I love the idea.
FOX: You’ve got to imagine that they really don’t know-- I don’t think they realize the extent of enemies that they are making in the region.
And what does this mean for the long-term prospects of peace in the region?
HANSON: The Iranian regime has made so many massive miscalculations. It’s hard to say this is the biggest one, but this might be the biggest one.
When we started this, there was not a lot of people saying this is a good idea in the region. They were all kind of standing back and wondering how it was going to go and keeping their powder dry and not getting involved.
Now that the Iranians have gone ahead and attacked them all and killed their people in a lot of cases, they’re all looking at them as a common enemy.
And If that pertains to the possibility of peace and security in the region, it’s a great path to it, because now these folks can look at Iran and say, we want somebody else running that country who can be a partner in the region and be prosperous, and we don’t want them causing trouble in our backyard.
So I think this is how it’s going to turn out.n They have not only killed their regime, but they helped President Trump and his Board of Peace create peace in the region.
