Controversial speaker Usama Dakdok to hold two Bemidji events

Christian speaker Usama Dakdok of the Straight Way of Grace Ministry will present “Revealing the Truth about Islam” at the National Guard Armory in Bemidji on Sept. 8 and the First Assembly of God church Sept. 10.

The appearances are his first in the area since a June 2014 event at the Bagley High School, in which a Muslim protester and Dakdok supporters argued; police responded to the scene and diffused the situation. Dakdok also is speaking in Grand Forks on Thursday; his speech in Grand Forks in March drew about 200 people and more than 150 protesters.

Dakdok was raised a Christian in Egypt and studied Islam in school. Now, in theaters and churches across the country, he lectures on the “dangers of Islam” and advocates the Bible should have a prominent place in public-school curricula.

When he visited Bagley for a series of talks last year, the audience was mostly elders. When he returned, he said then, he hoped to look out and see more young people.

Both shows begin at 7 p.m. and are free to the public. Donations are accepted.
