U. of Michigan’s Juan Cole Responds to Book Criticism with Name-Calling

The University of Michigan’s Juan Cole has responded to a substantial, multipart analysis of his latest book, Muhammad, Prophet of Peace Amid the Clash of Empires, with name-calling, rather than attempting to refute the criticisms at hand.

Author Stephen M. Kirby, who reviewed Cole’s book in great detail at Jihad Watch, describes the history professor’s three blog posts on the matter as “replete with ad hominem attacks (including calling me an ‘anonymous troll’),” while addressing “very few of the issues I had raised about his book,” and “using sources that actually undermined his claims.”

Cole’s defensiveness and boorish behavior are telling.
