Student’s Odd Question For Mom Leads To Sick Discovery About 9/11 Lesson

A student at an Illinois school came home from class last week and had some rather odd questions for her mother after learning about the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, which caused the woman to be concerned. After investigating further, she made a sickening discovery about what the students were being taught as a part of their history curriculum.

Rachel Seger’s 12-year-old daughter attends High Mount School in Swansea, according to the Belleview News-Democrat. Last week, the young girl came home from school after learning about 9/11, and she had some strange questions for Seger, who was sickened to learn what the school was teaching her daughter.

“She said, ‘What’s Quran mean?’ and I flipped,” Seger said. “I said, ‘Excuse me?’ and I looked at them, and I said oh my God.”

Apparently, the homework assignment from her history class had words such as jihad, Islam, Allah, hegira, mosque, Quran, and Muhammad, and Seger wasn’t happy about it.

“Some of these words, I don’t even know what they are: Ayatollah, caliph,” said a shocked Seger, who thinks the lesson steps too close to teaching religion. “I don’t want her learning other faiths from school. If it would have just stopped at ‘this is their culture, this is where they go to church,’ fine. But when you get into the actual aspect of it, that’s where I’m drawing the line. That’s just going a little too far.”

It’s hard to blame her there, considering it’s all but guaranteed that Christianity isn’t taught in a similar manner. Regardless, as it turns out, the school district is actually white washing the 9/11 attacks, and according to Superintendent Mark Halwachs, it’s being done in the name of “tolerance.”

More from the News-Democrat:

Halwachs says the school is teaching — and students that age can tell — the difference between a large group and a fanatical faction.

We have to present, with 9/11 or anything, it wasn’t a religion that did that. It was bad men that did that. I think you have to take moments like that and use them as teachable moments,” he said. “You have to look at the age group and your students, and to me you can talk about different things in the world and teach about tolerance.”

Isn’t that something? Let’s completely ignore the fact that Muslims across the globe celebrate the anniversary of the attacks, that Muslims cheered when they happened, and that to this day, Muslims are calling for the destruction of America, all so that children can learn to be “tolerant” of those who wish to kill them.

Seger made a stink to school officials, and her daughter has since been removed from that portion of the lesson. However, there’s still no plans to amend the curriculum to accurately represent both sides of what happened on 9/11, and the school will only be teaching the “happy, good side” of Islam, as Seger put it.

Perhaps this school needs a lesson on radical Islam and the danger it poses to the world, or better yet, maybe we should send the school officials to Syria, so they can see for themselves. The ideology of orthodox Islam is what caused the terrorists to attack America, and it’s every bit as important to teach students that as it is to teach them that the Nazis were responsible for the Holocaust, so that history isn’t able to repeat itself.

If we were to follow the logic – or lack thereof – the school is using to teach students about the terror attacks, then what they’re doing would be no different from teaching them that not all Nazis were bad, despite the fact that all of the Nazis went along with the genocide committed against the Jews. By the same token, all orthodox Muslims are bad for going along with the evil perpetrated in the name of Islam across the globe.

Sadly, this type of thing is happening in schools across the nation. For years, we’ve taught children that the totalitarian ideologies of Nazism, communism, and others are evil at their core and should be opposed. Yet, when it comes to the totalitarian ideology of Islam, it’s taught through rose-colored glasses, and it could end up with disastrous effects for our nation in the future.
