Muslim Woman Urges Her Community Not to Disregard Tariq Ramadan Rape Charges

In a letter to the editor to the Charlatan, the student paper of Carleton College, Aisha El Shennawy urges her fellow Muslims not to close ranks and automatically disregard sexual assault allegations against Islamic scholars such as Tariq Ramadan. As she puts it, “By immediately taking a negative position against those who accuse a scholar of sexual assault, we are making it difficult for people to come forward and demand justice. It is clear that our religious leaders have been put in an almost untouchable position.”
