French Court Denies Appeal to Drop Rape Charges Against Tariq Ramadan

A French court has denied an appeal from Tariq Ramadan’s lawyers to drop rape charges against the Islam scholar. The appeal was based on discrepancies in the dates of the alleged assaults in Salafist-turned-secular-activist Henda Ayari’s account. According to AFP, “the judges said that despite her ‘uncertainty’ about the dates, ‘the serious or collaborated elements which prompted the charges remain,’” while the testimony of his second accuser “has proved to be exact.”
