December 15, 2025 | “Egypt’s Security Challenges in the Red Sea and Africa” with Mohamed Farid

How is Cairo responding to ongoing instability in the Red Sea and in Africa? Mohamed Farid, recently elected to Egypt’s parliament, will share his views on Cairo’s stance toward ongoing Houthi attacks and their impact on Suez Canal traffic, as well as Egypt’s broader approach to the Horn of Africa, including cooperation with Somalia and Eritrea. Farid will also explore Egypt’s perspective on Ethiopia’s push for Red Sea access and a potential military foothold in the region, and he will discuss how the civil war in Sudan is reshaping Egypt’s security calculations and Red Sea navigation.

Mohamed Farid is an Egyptian member of parliament and policy expert with a background in economic development and institutional reform. He previously served as deputy chair of the Egyptian Senate’s Committee on Human Rights and Social Solidarity and has been actively engaged in regional policy dialogue on Red Sea security, the Horn of Africa, and political Islam. His work focuses on advancing economic freedom, accountable governance, and Egypt’s constructive role in regional stability. He holds a doctorate in business administration and a master’s degree in economic development and planning, and he is currently pursuing a second professional doctorate in political and strategic sciences.
