Job Description:
Help the editor of Focus on Western Islamism, a new publication, develop this new counter-Islamist outlet from the ground-up. Investigative reporters will monitor, catalogue and report Islamist activities across the Western world.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Publish articles and blog posts;
- Maintain social media accounts;
- Expose Islamist activity through open-source research and undercover investigations;
- Submit FOIA requests;
- Cultivate sources, both academic and governmental as well as reform Muslims;
- Solicit writers;
- Contribute to a proprietary database on Islamist activities;
- Track big data, such as governmental funding databases;
- Edit occasional articles for FWI.
Candidate Qualifications:
Required
- At least one year of experience as a reporter, with resulting publications;
- Agreement with MEF’s outlook that “radical Islam is the problem; moderate Islam is the solution";
- Knowledge of open-source research tools and techniques;
Optional, but helpful
- Proficiency in Arabic, Turkish, Persian, or Urdu;
- Experience parsing and analyzing large datasets;
- Some knowledge of Python and Javascript;
- Legal work experience, including familiarity with drafting FOIA requests.
- Knowledge of social media advertising.
