Members of Shawinigan’s Muslim community have finally come to an agreement with the city to open a mosque and cultural centre.
The original site chosen in Shawinigan’s industrial park had been denied in February.
At the time, the mayor said his council caved to “irrational fears.”
The Muslim Cultural Centre of Shawinigan said Monday it has now signed a lease with the city for a location within a zone that allows religious activities.
A spokesperson for the cultural centre said they are turning the page and will not be pursuing legal action against the city.
