Senate votes down call to blame fundamentalist Islam for war on terror

The South Dakota Senate on Tuesday defeated a resolution aimed at calling on federal security administrations to identify the root cause of the global war on terror.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 13, which said “enemy terrorist organizations are fighting in the name of Islam” failed on a 16-19 vote.

The measure wouldn’t have the effect of changing state law but would have served to send a message from the chamber.

The resolution’s supporters said the proposal was needed to reaffirm the sacrifice of those who’d fought against terror groups.
