The military police at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport have suspended a Muslim woman because of fears she could be a danger to national security, the Telegraaf reports on Saturday.
The woman, named as Sabra R, is part of a team charged with combating terrorism and crime. According to the Telegraaf, the security service fears she could be susceptible to the influence of radical Muslims and can no longer be allowed to do her job.
The woman is fighting her suspension. ‘How can anyone doubt my loyalty. I am totally anti-violence,’ she says in the Telegraaf. The paper says at work she wears the military police uniform and changes into a ‘traditional’ dress and headscarf out of hours.
Family
Military police chief Erik Akerboom told the Telegraaf the woman had deliberately withheld information ‘even if she had not meant to be misleading.’
Her lawyer Michael Ruperti told reporters one of her husband’s brothers was married to a woman who had given a statement in relation to the Hofstad group terrorist trial. She had failed to pass this information on to the security service, Ruperti said.
R, 26, comes from The Hague and worked as a security official for the Dutch royal family before moving to the military police.
Nos television says R was questioned three times by the MIVD. They only wanted to talk about Islam, she said.
‘They asked me how I wore my headscarf even though they already new,’ she is quoted as saying. Her email was also tapped and she was subjected to surveillance, Nos said.
