A policeman who was allegedly sacked for insulting Norway’s Prime Minister on Facebook, also posted a string of anti-Islamic and anti-immigrant comments, VG has reported.
Stein-Robin Kleven Berg, a politician for Norway’s Progress Party, said he did not remember posting two comments found by VG, which derided immigrants as lazy, unemployed criminals, or a rude anti-Islamic joke.
“I cannot remember having posted it, but my computer is often on and I have children in the house who occasionally post jokes up in my name,” he said.
“Spring has arrived and asylum seekers start cycling along the roads again,” a now-deleted comment from April 2011 on his Facebook page read. “Be very careful you do not run them over. It might be your bike!”
“How do you spot that a Muslim has crept into the sky?” he posted in September 2010. “Well, Taurus, Aries, Leo and Capricorn have been Halal-slaughtered…Libra[the scales} have been stolen, Virgo [the maiden]and Gemini [the twins] have been raped, and the plough is missing four wheels. “
He joked in April 2011 that he had taken his dog to try and get social security benefits, and been turned down.
“Why?” I said. “Surely he can get social security in exactly the same way as all the others: He’s lazy, he’s unemployed, he does not speak Norwegian, and he’s here without knowing who his parents are.”
The chief reason cited for Berg’s dismissal earlier this week was his description of Norway’s Prime Minister as a “krapyl”, a word which roughly translates as “creep”.
Kleven Berg stressed to VG that he was not a racist.
“I’ve argued many times that we should not discriminate against anyone based on race or religion. I can make critical jokes about immigrants, but I’m definitely not racist.”
