Riots took place in Brussels on Friday afternoon. A group of around thirty people were rioting in the streets with some onlookers looking on.
Police chief Johan Berckmans said that around 30 people were rioting and around 150 onlookers were watching. Berckmans said that the riots took place after prayers on Friday afternoon, and there were many people on the streets, especially in the area of St-Jans-Molenbeek. Berckmans went onto say that there were around 15 stone throwers.
According to Deredactie, it was rather quiet when women started to demonstrate, while wearing banned niqabs, but then a group of youngsters from outside Molenbeek started to move in and that is when things took a turn for the worse.
Sources saythat Brussels has seen unrest because of a 23-year-old who was detained by police for wearing a burqa. Eleven people were arrested after they went to the police station where she was being held.
The eleven people, including the woman, were eventually released.
