The distribution of anti-Islamic material has stepped up a notch with a new wave of brochures landing in Maroochydore letterboxes.
A brochure entitled “In Australia” rehashed information on the Cronulla riots and made mention of Islamist militants’ order for genital cutting.
The six-A4 page leaflet also states that “although Islam was indeed a peaceful religion in the first decade or so, it got on to war, violence, terrorism, robbery and infiltration and (the) overthrow of non-Islamic people.”
The last line reads: “So, what’s the point of this leaflet? Any politician can laugh off all of the above and so can you, the reader, but what can’t be said any more is ‘I didn’t know, nobody told me’.”
The brochure follows an initial letterbox drop at the end of last month, in an apparent bid to spread fear among residents.
It came after about 500 anti-mosque protesters campaigned against the proposed religious building in Maroochydore on September 20.
Publicity from the story on the original letterbox drop, which was brought to the attention of the wider community by Maroochydore’s Jacquie Dubois-Stanton, drew a passionate response from readers, many of whom had mixed views.
The eight-page brochure entitled “Islam” detailed “the unpalatable truth” about Islam and Muslims.
More than 200 comments were posted about the story.
One Daily online blogger said: “Jacquie Dubois-Stanton - a true Australian patriot, represents the majority living in Australia who are free-thinking, fair-minded Australians - who not only singularly had the courage to state her convictions in the press, but bravely put a name and face to her story. I’d sincerely love to have a tinny or tea with ya, Ms Dubois-Stanton.”
Another said “Jacquie shows ‘traditional Australian’ characteristics a lot of us hold dear. Cynical comments elsewhere on this page show she was, indeed, brave to make a statement. Good on her!”
Maroochydore blogger Flyboy said: “I am on the Maroochydore border but I haven’t seen this pamphlet yet. If it attempts to explain Islam in an objective manner, I don’t see what the problem is. If you don’t want to read it you don’t have to. We are largely a free society still.
“We now have evidence of radical Islam in Australia. However that is no excuse though for anyone to vilify or harass local peace-loving Muslims.”
