A Muslim teenager from Hampshire was kidnapped, imprisoned and had her hair cut off after her siblings saw her kiss a white man, a court has heard.
Winchester Crown Court heard Shamima Akhtar, 18, was attacked by her family in Basingstoke in April of last year.
The prosecution said the case was about “honour-based domestic violence”.
Her sisters Nazira, 29, and Nadiya, 25, and brother Kayum Mohammed-Abdul, 24, deny kidnap, false imprisonment and causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard that last April, Miss Akhtar went out with work colleagues in Basingstoke to celebrate her 18th birthday.
‘Dragged into home’
When she came out, her sisters and brother saw her kissing a white man - Gary Pain. It is alleged Mr Mohammed-Abdul assaulted Mr Pain and Miss Akhtar was bundled into the car and punched by her sister Nazira.
The prosecution said Miss Akhtar was dragged into the family home, verbally abused, punched by her sister Nadiya and then kicked by her brother.
It is alleged her sisters then cut off her waist-length hair as a punishment. Her phone was taken away but she managed to call police the following morning.
Jurors heard that when Nazira Akhtar was arrested she told police her parents were away and she was responsible for the family.
Prosecutors told the jury that, while Miss Akhtar considered herself “Westernised”, she was from a family with strong Islamic beliefs and was not allowed to to have contact with males from a different culture.
All three deny the charges and the case continues.
