One of the two Muslim lawmakers in Congress is pushing back on a GOP lawmaker who said Muslims want to “kill every homosexual” in the United States.
Theremark from Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) about the Muslim community is “simply unacceptable and untrue,” Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) said.
During a radio interview this week, Brooks was asked why the left refuses to acknowledge that it is “mainstream Muslim thought” to put homosexuals to death.
“Well, it’s probably because they’re counting votes. And they’re seeking a block vote from the Muslim community in the United States and that’s a community that’s increasing in political power, as it’s doing in Europe,” he said.
Moving to another controversy, Carson rolled his eyes when asked to respond to comments by a controversial imam who has been linked to the mass shooting in Orlando. Imam Marcus Robertson said Hillary Clinton shouldn’t be president because she’s a woman.
The prophet “taught us that whenever a woman’s in charge there’s bound to be problems, what if she’s on her menses and it’s time to go to war — is she going to push the button because she’s angry?” Robertson told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren.
Carson says Robertson’s position “is not a prominent sentiment” in the Muslim-American community, adding that “pastors ... [and] tabbis ... of different faiths have said similar things. ... I don’t think Muslims have exclusivity on sexism and extremism.”
