Muslim charity group provides school bags to needy children in Harrisburg

Children in need received free school bags from the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) on Saturday.

The bag distribution in the state’s capital was one stop for ICNA, as it plans to give out free school bags to 1,000 children statewide through September.

“Many families in Pennsylvania are under financial pressure; some have lost jobs and find it difficult to buy school supplies for their children,” said Dana Mohamed, Program Manager for ICNA Relief PA, in a news release. “We hope this initiative will cater to these needs of low-income families, and help build a better future for our children.”

The effort is part of ICNA’s Relief Division’s national Back 2 School Giveaway project, which his hosting over 60 similar events across the country with the goal of helping over 100,000 needy children.
