Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Joseph Kreamer handed down probation sentences Tuesday to three family members who beat a teenage relative for talking with a man.
Yusra Farhan, 51, her husband, Mohammed Altameemi, 46, and the couple’s daughter, Tabarak Altameemi, 18, each received two years supervised probation.
All three also must adhere to domestic violence terms such as counseling.
The three pleaded guilty in October in return for lesser charges. The judge accepted the trio’s guilty pleas after a probation officer interviewed everyone involved and gave a recommendation.
Mohammed Altameemi pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
Farhan pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment and domestic violence.
Tabarak Altameemi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault.
Other charges were dropped stemming from the Feb. 6 beating in their home near 35th and Myrtle avenues in Phoenix.
The victim, a daughter to the couple, was living separately from the family. In an emotional outburst during the October hearing, the girl, who is now 20, insisted she wanted to return to her family.
The judge left the contact between the family members to the probation officer but he recommended that contact between the victim and her family could begin as early as Tuesday, a court spokesman said.
The family are refugees from Iraq and have been in the United States for four years.
