Father of Chechen man shot during FBI interrogation to speak out in Florida

The father of a Chechen man shot to death in Orlando during an FBI interrogation plans to address the media next Tuesday in Tampa, the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced Wednesday.

Abdulbaki Todashev traveled from Russia to the U.S. to try to get answers about the May 22 death of his son, Ibragim Todashev, who was a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

The 11 a.m. press conference, to be held at CAIR offices, will update the public on what the father has discovered and also on the status of a CAIR investigation into the killing.

The FBI has released scant information other than that Ibragim Todashev initiated a “violent confrontation” that ended in his death at a condo near Universal Orlando.

A Shooting Incident Review Group composed of FBI and Department of Justice officials will determine whether the deadly force was reasonable, an FBI spokesman said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, citing the FBI investigation, last month rebuffed a request from the ACLU asking it to get involved.
