Anjem Choudary, former spokesperson to the banned British group Islam4UK, has warned that hostages might be taken in order to secure the release of Mullah Krekar.
Mr Choudary, a former lawyer, was also involved with the group Muslims Against Crusades, which was also banned by UK authorities in November last year.
He believes that Norway is trying to appease Americans in their war on terror, reports NRK. He told the broadcaster, “my message is that Muslims in other countries must do everything they can to free Muslims from jail.”
According to historian and social commentator Lars Gule, it was difficult to say how seriously Choudary’s should be taken, nonetheless.
“This is pretty new and it remains to be seen if it is something someone is going to react to. I allow myself to doubt, because Choudary is unlikely to have enough influence to affect any of the countries where most Jihadists are active,” he said.
Mullah Krekar, who is to testify during Anders Behirng Breivik’s trial, was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Oslo District Court for issuing death threats against several named people.
