Call for end of mutilation of young girls

A social media campaign calling for an end to female genital mutilation (FGM) has cumulated with an online flashmob.

The bid, headed by police commissioner Matthew Ellis, saw 250 supporters use Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr to spread the message ‘Female genital mutilation amounts to torture and child abuse which all girls deserve to live free from #EndFGM’.

It reached almost 350,000 people. FGM almost always goes unreported and around 24,000 girls are at risk across the UK.
