The company at the centre of a nationalistic row over the Anzac cookie says it has used Halal certification on all its products for almost ten years.
The Byron Bay Cookie company has become the latest target by an anti-Halal lobby group.
The Boycott Halal in Australia group encourages boycotting any product carrying halal certification, claiming the money raised is used to funds Islamic terrorist groups.
Police have confirmed they are investigating reports of abusive calls and social media posts being directed at staff members at the cookie company.
The Byron Bay Cookie company is standing by its Halal certification and said it is no different to Kosher or gluten-free labelling.
It said the Halal symbol is no different to the Kosher, gluten free and heart foundation tick symbols.
Over the years the company’s products have been used by major suppliers, including Virgin Airlines.
The company said it had been making cookies in Byron Bay for 25 years, and enjoyed a healthy export market that’s allowed it to become one of the larger employers in Byron Bay.
The Byron Bay Cookie Company said halal certification is an important aspect of its export business.
