Controversial Finns Party MP Jussi Halla-aho is considering appealing a stiffer sentence for hate speech handed down by Finland's Supreme Court.

In response to a question posted on his Facebook wall, the Finns Party MP said he would appeal the ruling in the European Court of Human Rights.

On Friday the court tightened the sentence of a lower court, ordering Halla-aho to pay a 50-day fine instead of a 30-day fine for derogatory comments he wrote about Somali immigrants in 2008, and for inciting hatred against the group. He was also ordered to remove the statements from his blog.
