With former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) now out of Congress, the Council on American-Islamic Relations is hoping to capitalize off the sale of a small piece of the ex-congressman’s short, colorful legacy.
A letter addressed to the Florida chapter of CAIR, printed on West’s stationery and signed by the former congressman, is currently listed on eBay for a starting bid of $1,000. It’s described as “possibly [the] shortest letter from Congress in US History.”
The note -- which features the lone word, “NUTS!” -- was reported on in 2011, when West gave the terse response to local CAIR leaders after being called upon by the group to denounce “anti-Muslim activists.” At the time, the Miami New Times called it perhaps “the dumbest thing ever written on congressional stationery.”
West may have had a strained relationship with Muslims during his tenure -- he once told a CAIR questioner not to “blow sunshine up my butt” -- but seeing as how the group is now selling the letter, it appears that they’re not opposed to making some money off of having been one of the congressman’s favorite targets.
A description of the letter posted with the eBay listing makes sure to cater to potential bidders from across the political spectrum. Click over to eBay for more on the background of West’s letter, as well as a picture.
