On September 6, the Million American March Against Fear on 9/11, previously known as the Million Muslim March, announced that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) will speak at the event. There’s only one problem: His office told the Clarion Project that they didn’t even know about it.
Michele Rooney, Rep. Cleaver’s Communications Director, told the Clarion Project on September 9 that the announcement is unexpected and false.
“As for participation in the Million American March Against Fear on 9/11 in Washington D.C.—the Congressman is not participating in the event. I have spoken to both of his schedulers … and neither were aware of the event and have already scheduled a full day for him with other activities, remembrances, and observances,” she said.
Rep. Cleaver is serving his fifth term in Congress and is a member of the House Committee on Financial Services. He was Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2011 to 2013 and is a minister in the United Methodist Church. He still sometimes serves as a guest preacher.
The Facebook page for the march showcased a photo of two of the event’s lead organizers, MD Rabbi Alam and Isa Hodge, with the congressman representing Missouri’s 5th district. The announcement reads:
“Very big news for Million American March Against Fear, Finally we have our Permit on hand and guess who joined with our march? The United States Congressman Emanuel Clever – Chairman of Congressional Black Caucus and will be speaking at the MAMAF-9/11/13 Event. Thank you Congressman Clever, we are so glad to have you…"
On the same day that Rep. Cleaver’s office denied the congressman’s involvement, Clarion asked MD Rabbi Alam to ask how the arrangement was made. Alam sent the following message:
“We reached him and invited him. It is as simple as this. Congressman Cleaver knows me professionally and he knows us we are real not like you know me from Fox news or by from some info of Islam-phobic sources. Do not forget your media always lied about me and my people and my group. Congressman Cleaver accepted our invitation to be speaking at our event on 9/11.”
The Clarion Project reported on August 22 that the event’s organizers are linked to Islamists and have a history of supporting 9/11 conspiracy theories. Even the event’s website says, “Al-Qaeda’ is a joke. And so is the whole ‘war on terror.’”
On August 28, Clarion reported on how the organizers were viciously attacking a moderate Muslim critic and the Clarion Project, who have continually exposed the organizers extremist ties an how the organizers have tried to hide evidence of MD Rabbi Alam’s sympathy for Bangladeshi Islamists.
Now they’ll have to explain the disparity between their announcement and the statement of Rep. Cleaver’s office.
