Eight people from the Eastern Finnish town of Lieksa face charges of inciting hatred towards an ethnic group. Last November they posted comments on a Facebook page that threatened and slandered immigrants.
Deputy state prosecutor Jorma Kalske decided on Wednesday to file charges based on the activity in Lieksa in late November.
Police have questioned 10 suspects. Kalske decided not to charge two of them, one who was underage and one whose acts were not deemed sufficiently serious.
North Karelia District Court is to decide on the timing of legal proceedings.
The evidence turned up by the police investigation will be made public when the trial goes to court, unless its judges decide otherwise.
