A Brooklyn-based Arab-American group that has raked in more than $200,000 in city cash since 2014 hosted political events at its headquarters — a violation of federal nonprofit rules, experts said.
The Arab-American Association of New York's treasurer, Khader El-Yateem, is running for City Council.
Its former executive director is the controversial activist Linda Sarsour, who stepped down last month.
Under Sarsour and El-Yateem, the nonprofit hosted the Muslim Democratic Club of New York City for several events, including phone-banking for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016.
