Mandatory swim lessons pit integration against religion
Should parents in Switzerland be allowed to take their children out of compulsory swimming lessons in public schools on religious grounds?
A Muslim family in Basel did just that.
The parents were fined for refusing to allow their daughters to participate as required and last week the Federal Supreme Court upheld the penalty, raising further questions about integration in Switzerland.
