A coalition of Christian, Muslim and civil rights groups has called a demonstration outside a suburban DetroitLowe’s store to protest the home improvement chain’s decision to pull ads from a reality TV show about U.S. Muslims.
Executives of the Mooresville, N.C.-based company say TLC’s“All-American Muslim” became a “lightning rod” for complaints. They acted after complaints from the conservative Christian group the Florida Family Association.
A group of Detroit-area Christian, Muslim and civil rights groups says its members will demonstrate at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lowe’s store in Allen Park against what the coalition says was the company’s decision to “cave to anti-Muslim extremists.”
The travel planning site Kayak.com also has pulled its ads from the show, which features five families in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn.
