Standing near Millennium Park on Saturday with "The Bean" sculpture gleaming over his shoulder, Abid Bukhari tried to get strolling tourists and wedding parties to consider a peaceful Islam.
It was a tough sell.
"People come down to enjoy; They don't want to just hang around and talk," concluded Bukhari, 26, as he held out pamphlets featuring the word "Terrorism" crossed out. The crowd passing by mainly declined his offer.
Still, Bukhari and more than two dozen members of the local Ahmadiyya Muslim community spent the afternoon passing out brochures around downtown as part of a national effort to inform people that to truly practice Islam means advocating peace, not violence.
