Yale Ranked on List of Worst Colleges for Free Speech [incl. Jytte Klausen]

Yale ranks high on yet another ranking. But this time, it’s bad news.

Greg Lukianoff, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), ranked the twelve worst colleges for free speech in a recent Huffington Post article. Yale ranked fifth and was described as “a repeat offender against freedom of expression in recent years.”

In support of the ranking, Lukianoff cited Yale’s decision to censor images of Mohammed in Jytte Klausen’s The Cartoons That Shook the World, as well as Yale College Dean Mary Miller’s decision to censor Freshman Class Council Game shirts that contained the term “sissies” because the word “could be seen as a derogatory slur against homosexuals.”

The list was topped by Syracuse University. DePaul University, SUNY Binghamton, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst ranked above Yale.
