The University has warned the five students studying in Israel this semester to be on alert after a week of deadly attacks in the country and the nearby Gaza Strip.
Director of Study Abroad Rob Hallworth said he has no plans to evacuate students, but that the University “will continue to monitor the situation in Israel closely.”
“We have been in touch with the students and have encouraged them to heed security advice from their host universities,” Hallworth said.
New York University students in Tel Aviv were evacuated Tuesday, citing a concern that students would not be able to fly home in a few weeks if the conflict intensifies. Attacks have already spread to Tel Aviv – a bus bomb blew up and injured at least 28 people Wednesday, according to Haaretz.
One Cornell University student who was spending the semester at an Israeli school near the Gaza Strip was also evacuated, according to the Cornell Daily Sun. Another Cornell student, studying at Tel Aviv University, was forced to take shelter during an air attack.
Israel launched its offensive in Gaza last week, and air strikes have since killed more than 100 Palestinians and a key military leader.
