The University of Montana’s Arab Studies Program is offering Arabic language courses for high school students this summer.
UM is holding its Montana Arabic Summer Institute from June 17 through July 12.
The four-week language courses are funded through a grant from the National Security Agency to expand and improve the teaching and learning of strategically important foreign languages.
Twenty-five students will be selected from among those who apply. There are courses for students with no previous knowledge of Arabic and one for students who have been introduced to the basics. The deadline to apply is May 24.
Students will develop and improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Arabic, as well as learn about the culture. The grant covers tuition, fees and instruction materials. Students who complete the course will earn five college credits.
