UC Berkeley Muslim Student ‘Burdened and Invalidated’ By Abrahamic Religions Course

A Muslim student at UC Berkeley claims she felt “burdened and invalidated” because her Abrahamic religions professor, Manuel Duarte de Oliveira, asked for her help teaching the Islam unit, and used readings and lectures on Islam mostly by “Jewish scholars.” The horror!

The student, Sabreen Abdelrahman, was so traumatized that, in addition to a Daily Californian interview, she wrote an op-ed about the experience insisting that “qualified professors who actually belong to the communities discussed in the course are prioritized in the hiring process.”
