Steven Salaita chose to access Twitter and put his venomous thoughts into viewable words. His prospective employers chose to take his unrestrained rants seriously, and to be rightfully concerned that his kind of hate-speech might affect and infect students. Salaita and others should stop hiding behind “freedom of speech” or “academic freedom.” What he has done is more akin to the incitement caused by yelling “fire” in a crowded theater.
