A pro-Israel group has sent a letter to the chancellor of a university in California to protest against one of its professors who posted an anti-Semitic banner on an official school website.
Alyza Lewin, president and general counsel of The Louis D. Brandeis Center, reports the letter – coordinated by the pro-Israel group AMCHA Initiative – was sent to California State University Chancellor Timothy White by 80 pro-Israel organizations. Those groups complained that Middle East studies Professor Rabab Abdulhadi at San Francisco State University posted an anti-Semitic banner on a school Facebook page earlier this month. The banner stated that “Zionism = Racism.”
“There is a law in California that specifically says that the name of the university – California State University [in this case] – may not use that name to promote propaganda or in advertising or any kind of support or endorsement of things like boycotts or political movements,” Lewin explains.
The letter urges Chancellor White to take immediate action into what it calls the professor’s “flagrant and unlawful conduct.”
Lewin argues it is incumbent for schools to push back whenever incidents like this erupt.
“What’s happening is pro-Israel Zionist students on campus are feeling the pressure to either hide or shed this part of who they are,” she describes.
OneNewsNow reported last year that Professor Abdulhadi caused a stir by stating SFSU President Leslie Wong’s statement welcoming Zionists on campus equated to “a declaration of war” against pro-Palestinian students.
The Louis D. Brandeis Center is one of 80 signatories to the letter.
