Robert Spencer responds to a smear from Luther College professor and “Islamophobia expert” Todd Green and in the process, highlights the absurdity of Green’s latest article. In it, Green lambasts those who argue that Islam is a “political ideology,” not a religion, by attempting to “turn the tables and ask the same question of Christianity.”
Beyond the unique development of each religion, which accounts largely for the different historical stage each finds itself in at this point, Green places Islam beyond criticism. He concludes that “any argument questioning Islam’s status as a religion is nothing more than an effort to circumvent the First Amendment,” when, in fact, no one is promoting any such thing. In addition to freedom of religion, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech, including that which reflects poorly on Islam, or on any religion.
For much-needed reform to succeed, Green and his “Islamophobia"-hyping academic cohorts must allow Islam to be subjected to the same criticism they eagerly heap on Christianity.
