Faculty Raise Questions About Funds for Islamic-Studies Chair in Canada

In a letter, 26 faculty members and others with connections to the University of Western Ontario have asked officials to turn down money for a new chair in Islamic studies at its affiliated Huron University College, alleging that proposed funds come from two groups the writers claim have ties to radical Muslim organizations, according to a report in the National Post. The letter writers say the college is ill advised to accept money being raised by the Muslim Association of Canada and the Virginia-based International Institute of Islamic Thought. The administration disagrees that the money is tainted. The letter notes that Temple University rejected money from the International Institute in 2008.
