Sixteen American high school students have arrived in Oman to take part in a six-week programme – National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y).
A press release said that the students arrived at the US Embassy in Muscat on June 23.
The NSLI-Y programme is implemented through a partnership between AMIDEAST in Oman and the US state department.
The exchange programme includes living with an Omani family, intensive Arabic classes, and learning Omani culture.
The aim of the programme is to expose the students to Omani culture and life. They will be given an overview of Oman's history through tours of various locations, lectures, and discussions.
The release said that NSLI-Y provides merit-based scholarships to US students to develop their linguistic skills and cultural knowledge of other countries, in order to promote international dialogue and learn less commonly taught languages.
