TORONTO, May 7 /CNW/ - In honour of Israel’s 60th anniversary, Canada Christian College and the School of Graduate Theological Studies have announced the creation of a new department dedicated exclusively to the study of the modern State of Israel. Dr. Charles McVety, President of the College, has appointed Dr. Frank Dimant, B’nai Brith Canada’s Executive Vice President, as the Department’s inaugural chair.
“We are thrilled to announce this important addition to the College’s roster of a new department focusing on Israel and Zionist history,” said Dr. Charles McVety. “The establishment of this department will enable students in both the undergraduate program and the Theological Graduate School to gain an understanding of the Jewish people’s national struggle to create a homeland in their ancestral land.”
“The appointment of Dr. Frank Dimant as the inaugural chair of the Israel Studies Department is a testament to his vast knowledge and expertise of Israel and the wider Middle East region. Dr. Dimant is a highly respected leader of Canada’s Jewish community and the Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada, with a wealth of first-hand experience and insight into the Diaspora Jewish community and its relationship to the Jewish State.”
“This new department is a powerful symbol of the extraordinary working relationship and devotion of the Evangelical movement with the Modern State of Israel and the Jewish people throughout the world. We hope that the introduction of this Chair will serve as a catalyst for other Christian schools, both in Canada and abroad, to create similar departments devoted to the study of modern Israel.”
Canada Christian College is pleased to join a select number of universities and colleges with chairs devoted specifically to the study of Israel, such as the University of Toronto in Canada; Harvard University, Brandeis University, and Yeshiva University in the United States; and the University of Oxford in England. Dr. Frank Dimant will also be amongst the first professors to teach this new curriculum, which will offer both a political science and sociological approach to the study of Israel. Canada Christian College is a leading Christian educational facility in Canada with a 40-year record of having graduated 5,000 pastors.
