“The Mecca Agreement and Changing Alliances in the Middle East” with David Wurmser

The Mecca Agreement and Changing Alliances in the Middle East

The new Mecca Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan adds another layer to an already shifting Middle Eastern security landscape. Does the agreement represent a durable new alignment or a more limited partnership, and how might it affect the calculations of Iran, Israel, and other regional powers? David Wurmser examines what the pact could mean for traditional alliances, regional power balances, and the role of the United States in an increasingly fluid strategic environment.

David Wurmser is a founding executive member of Delphi Global Analysis Group and a former senior adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser John Bolton, and the U.S. State Department. He previously founded the Middle East studies program at the American Enterprise Institute and served 11 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, reaching the rank of lieutenant commander. Wurmser holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.
