The U.S.-led Israel/Lebanon Negotiations and The Arab Case for Israel

Last week, the Iranian proxy Lebanese Hizballah organization swiftly rejected a US-brokered ceasefire proposal for Lebanon. Hizballah recommenced war against Israel on March 1, in support of and probably at the order of its patrons in Teheran. Iran continues to require that the Lebanese front must form part of any ceasefire in its negotiations to end its war with the US. This is a clear attempt to place a wedge between the US and Israel. The official Lebanese government, meanwhile, remains unwilling and unable to impose its will on Hizballah, which conducts its war against Israel on behalf of Iran from Lebanese soil.

Author, journalist and researcher Hussain Abdul-Hussain, who lived and studied in Lebanon, will examine and analyse the current situation in the country and its implications. Hussein will also share his insights on why immediate and unconditional peace with Israel is a pressing interest for all Arab nations, as laid out in his new book, The Arab Case For Israel.

Hussain Abdul-Hussain is a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and author of The Arab Case for Israel. Raised in Beirut, Baghdad, and Baalbek, he focuses on Arab affairs, including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Sudan. A former reporter and editor at Beirut’s The Daily Star, he has also worked with Alhurra Iraq, Kuwait’s Alrai, and Chatham House, and writes in both English and Arabic.
