Jonathan Spyer joins the ILTV Security Brief to unpack the uneasy gap between the U.S.-backed Gaza plan and facts on the ground. He notes Hamas retains control over significant parts of the Strip and is rebuilding authority, raising hard questions about how an international stabilization force could disarm it without constraining Israel’s freedom of action.
Spyer also warns that Lebanon’s Hezbollah is rearming while the Lebanese Armed Forces lack the will and capacity to disarm it, making a future Israel–Hezbollah escalation likely.
On Syria, he sees talks as low priority and is skeptical of the new government’s intentions, suggesting only limited, de facto security understandings are plausible for now.
