The prize is awarded to authors who best contribute to Israel’s security. It seeks to shake up Israel’s ideologically staid defense establishment by encouraging outside-the-box military thinking.

In Rifle Full of Roses, Ms. Dromi examines how radical agendas have diminished the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) over the last few decades by tying the hands of IDF soldiers with legal advisors and red tape. She offers a new way forward.

“Israel’s defense establishment has neglected the concepts of victory and defeat, replacing them with appearance and restraint,” said Ms. Dromi. “Some elements within the IDF, once revered and feared the world over, have lost their spirit and been consumed with guilt. It’s time once again for it to be a security rather than a political organization – fully committed to victory.”

Forum president Daniel Pipes formulated the concept of Israel Victory in the late 1990s. Today it is within reach, aided by a more realistic Israeli body politic, and by Arab states tired of the Palestinian cause and instead joining the Abraham Accords. Surprisingly, Israel’s defense establishment has been the biggest obstacle to Israel Victory.

The Middle East Forum promotes American interests in the region and protects Western civilization from Islamism. It does so through a combination of original ideas, focused activism, and the funding of allies.
