MEF Alumna to Head FBI Intelligence Directorate

PHILADELPHIA – May 20, 2022 – Director Chris Wray has appointed Tonya Ugoretz to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Intelligence Directorate. Ms. Ugoretz was managing editor of the Middle East Forum’s flagship publication, the Middle East Quarterly, from 1994 to 1997.

After leaving the Forum, Ms. Ugoretz has held positions in the Central Intelligence Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Office of the Director for National Intelligence.

As Intelligence Directorate Chief, Ms. Ugoretz will be responsible for intelligence operations at headquarters and across all FBI field offices.

“We congratulate Ms. Ugoretz on her new position, and wish her success,” said Middle East Forum founder and president Daniel Pipes, who himself served in five U.S. administrations. “I know she is well qualified to manage the array of intelligence challenges facing the country.”

The Middle East Forum promotes American interests in the region and protects Western civilization from Islamism. It does so through a combination of original ideas, focused activism, and the funding of allies.
